“EVA-MARIA” by Lukas Ladner wins the MABACHER AWARD

The MABACHER AWARD honors films that break down barriers in society.

The expert jury explains its decision as follows:

In “Eva-Maria” the filmmaker and the protagonist meet at eye level and are a team. This positive example is refreshing and urgently needed – self-determination is the key word.

“Eva-Maria” is by no means a touching story of suffering: Eva Maria is strong and determined, she has her opinion and has her say. She fights and convinces. The topic of parenting people with disabilities is an important one, but rarely discussed (filmwise and socially).

Accompanying Eva-Maria, a woman with disabilities, in fulfilling her desire to have children is eye-opening, exciting and challenging. “Eva-Maria” breaks down barriers in people’s minds. We draw strength from this film – as viewers, as women, as people.

Jury: Natalie Schwager, Yuria Knoll and Melina Nwabuonwor.

Also nominated were “LET ME FLY” (EVELYNE FAYE), “LIVING TOGETHER” (Thomas Fürhapter) and IT WORKS II (FRIDOLIN SCHÖNWIESE).

The MABACHER AWARD was launched in 2022 by filmmaker Stefan Wolner and author Hannah Wahl. The memory of the inclusion activist Martin Habacher alias mabacher should be preserved and his commitment to a society without barriers should be continued. Since this year, our jury has been honoring a special film with inclusive and anti-discriminatory content every year. All films were shown in advance at barrier-free screenings: subtitling, induction loop, sign language interpretation and structural accessibility. The award ceremony took place on December 9, 23 as part of the THIS HUMAN WORLD film festival.

The submission for the MABACHER AWARD 2024 is already possible.
