The Four Heroes and the Heroic Games

The Heroic Games are a series of matches held in tribute to Dagda, the Empire’s first and founding king, where current ruler Solel grants one wish to the ultimate winner according to Gematsu. Among the combatants are four playable protagonists: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. Each character brings distinct motivations to the arena:

  • Cai: Sets out from the village of Ribeira with childhood friends to win the Games and free his imprisoned father.
  • Dietrich: Competes alongside new allies to slake his thirst for battle after washing ashore following a monster attack.
  • Theodora: Hails from Saramis leading veteran retainers to restore her goddess’s honor and defend her kingdom’s peace.
  • Leda: Gives up prestige and uses her musical talent to enter the Games after learning her father’s murderer is competing.

Players can switch between playing each protagonist at any time with individual progress saved, allowing simultaneous progression through each narrative path according to Gamesradar.

Time Travel, Balor, and the True Protagonist

The game’s true plot is set five years in the future, where the Dagdan Empire faces its end due to the return of the demon god Balor, and the four heroes have vanished according to Kotaku. The progenitor god Sothis charges a white-haired soul named Eshmel with saving the world. Players can choose to face Balor alone or use the time-traveling powers of the goddess Fortuna to return to the Heroic Games, change the fates of the four protagonists, and recruit them to prevent the end of the world.

Classes, Combat Mechanics, and Free Time

Combat matches feature traditional strategic movement, where units have movement ranges shown in blue and attack ranges in red. Players can utilize standard weaponry alongside combat arts that consume weapon durability, and unique Blaze Arts tied to the main protagonists that consume life points for powerful effects, such as Cai’s area-of-effect fireballs, Dietrich’s teleportation, Leda’s monster-summoning vihuela performances, and Theodora launching rocks across massive distances. Additionally, players can rewind to any previous point in battle after a move to redo mistakes.
