OpenAI has released a ChatGPT app for the Apple iPhone. This can now be done free of charge via the App Store downloaded, at least in the US – the release in the rest of the world should follow in the next few weeks. A corresponding app for Android smartphones should also be published “soon”.
The ChatGPT app inherits the plain user interface of the web version of the chatbot. Users can enter text in the chat field as usual and will immediately receive an answer from the artificial intelligence. The app doesn’t display any ads, and there are no microtransactions either. It is possible, ChatGPT Plus Subscribe directly from the app for $19.99 per month. The subscription allows the use of the newer GPT-4 model as well as priority access, so that the chatbot is available and answers immediately even in times of high server load. Subscribers also get early access to new features.
The iPhone app syncs chat histories with the OpenAI account, allowing users to continue chatting across multiple smartphones or web instances. Users should note that all data transmitted to ChatGPT can be used to train artificial intelligence, so no sensitive, personal or medical information should be provided – those who want to protect their privacy can disable the chat history. The app warns that answers do not necessarily have to be factually correct.
