Established at the Clinique de l’Anjou since February 2019, the Cité des soins association has launched a fundraising campaign to finance a theatrical workshop aimed at helping patients navigate the return to professional life. Running through the end of December, the fundraising drive seeks to raise 20,000 euros.
In Plain English: The Clinical Takeaway
- Oncological Rehabilitation: Comprehensive cancer care extends beyond acute treatment into supportive therapies designed to rebuild physical and psychosocial function.
- Professional Reintegration: Returning to the workforce presents psychological and cognitive hurdles for patients, requiring structured support.
- Multidisciplinary Supportive Care: Complementary therapies—such as adapted physical activity, psychotherapy, and specialized workshops—help address the complex sequelae of cancer treatment.
Expanding Support Networks
Nestled within the heart of the Clinique de l’Anjou, the Cité des soins operates alongside two satellite antennas located in Baugé and Saumur. The association functions as an aid for individuals navigating the aftermath of a cancer diagnosis. Nous sommes complémentaires de ce qui est déjà proposé sur le territoire. Notre volonté est d’accueillir tous ceux qui en ont besoin
[We are complementary to what is already offered in the region. Our desire is to welcome all those who need it], explains Dr. Nicolas Paillocher, president of the association and a specialist in general and oncological surgery at the Clinique de l’Anjou.
The facility initially opened its doors in February 2019 with a focus on adapted physical activity. Following documented benefits among participating patients, the association expanded its therapeutic offerings. Today, the association provides a diverse array of free supportive modalities.

The Rationale Behind Professional Reintegration Workshops
Addressing the distance between remission and the resumption of daily responsibilities remains a central challenge.
[When we only offer adapted physical activity, the risk is leaving patients by the wayside. Our desire has been to set up more workshops for greater complementarity and ultimately allow patients to regain confidence at a time when everything seems impossible], Dr. Paillocher details.
Current workshops span plant mediation, writing, hypnosis, sophrology, theater, music therapy, sewing, golf, museum mediation, architectural initiation, genealogy, Pilates, equine mediation, and dance. The proposed theatrical module confronts the psychosocial friction of re-entering the workforce. Il s’agit bien souvent d’une nouvelle épreuve
[It is very often a new ordeal], Dr. Paillocher observes regarding the professional transition.
The 20,000 euro theater program is structured to help patients anticipate difficulties related to the resumption of professional activity. The initial session is scheduled for November 18, in the presence of patients, corporate executives, and human resources directors. Following the workshop, a coach in reconversion and professional activity resumption will be available to provide guidance for participating patients.
Financial Mechanics and Access Protocols
Operating with an annual budget of 160,000 euros, the Cité des soins depends on donations and patronage to maintain its services. The center supports 160 patients annually with two part-time employees. Care is structured for a maximum duration of one year per participant.
Patients seeking information can visit the Cité des soins directly or be referred by their doctor. The public fundraising campaign, launched on October 1 and slated to run through the end of December, accepts contributions via the association’s website to secure the launch of the professional reintegration theater initiative.
