More than 50% of parents believe that it is necessary for their daughters to receive the HPV vaccine, which is more important than other vaccines. Only 1/4 of parents believe that their sons need to receive the HPV vaccine.

Parents with daughters have a higher percentage of “knowing” correct information than parents with only sons in the family.
Only 40% of parents know that HPV vaccine can prevent “head and neck cancer” and 35% of parents know that HPV vaccine can prevent “anal cancer”.

In fact, both men and women are at risk of HPV infection. Dr. Li Bingying, honorary director of the Taiwan Vaccine Promotion Association, said that the probability of men being infected with HPV in their lifetime is more than 90%, which is higher than 80% of women. A document published by WHO in “Lancet Global Health” in August this year also pointed out that men are more likely to be frequently infected and transmit HPV than women. Therefore, Tsai Li-juan, deputy executive director of the Taiwan Cancer Foundation, called on the government to include men over the age of 15 in the comprehensive HPV prevention and treatment policy, and the HPV vaccine should be administered to both genders nationwide.
