Humane’s screenless smartphone on video

A screen-free future is the promise of Humane, a start-up founded by former Apple employees. And this promise, in development for several years, came to fruition last month, during a TED Talk conference recorded in Vancouver. Although the video was only uploaded today, we already know the outline of the device : it is worn like a badge on clothing, it is completely autonomous and has a projector if it needs to display something (on the flat of the hand).

The projector in action. To be used… like a smartphone, after all.

The great business of this distant predecessor of the combadge to do everything Star Trek, artificial intelligence is really at the heart of the Humane project. It gives the integrated assistant translation capabilities (with the user’s intonations, even if it is not obvious when listening), product analysis with the help of a camera (a bar of chocolate in the example), or even the capacity to grind a summary of the mails received and the next appointments. For more details on the features of the device, I refer you to our previous full article:

Humane wants to reinvent the smartphone, but without a screen

The driving idea of the project is very interesting: it is about removing the screens that clutter our view. But what we see in this video isn’t much more advanced than an Apple Watch with a slightly smarter Siri. And the screens, it’s still not bad for watching videos or playing games…
