Laura Clarke, a resident of West Lancashire, England, rants about Ryanair. And not just a little! It must be said that she lost more than 1,000 euros because of the low-cost airline. Or almost. In reality, she, her sister and a friend had to travel with Ryanair from Manchester to Bordeaux to celebrate a birthday. But, a few days before their departure, they learned that their flight was canceled because of a strike by air traffic controllers in France. “But we had already spent more than 500 euros for the hotel and more than 250 euros for an activity on site, so we did not want to lose them,” she explained to The Sun.
In an emergency, Chloé and her friends had to find another flight, still with the Irish company. But while their previous flight had cost around 300 euros, this one cost almost 1,000 euros. Not to mention the fact that the departure airport was different and that they therefore had to spend the night in a nearby hotel. In short, a lot of money wasted!
And what was Chloé’s surprise to learn by email, shortly after her second reservation, that her first flight was finally… maintained: “I thought it was a joke, so I called them… and the lady at the telephone confirmed to me that it would take off well”. Finally, Chloe had confirmation that her first flight had indeed been cancelled, and that all this panic was therefore not useless. And if she finally arrived in Bordeaux, Chloé would have done well without all this stress… and would have kept her money well.
A Ryanair spokesperson confirmed to The Sun that the original flight, scheduled for March 31 between Manchester and Bordeaux, had been canceled due to the strike by air traffic controllers in France. “The passengers affected were notified on March 28 and options were presented to them,” he added, before acknowledging that an email indicating that the flight would take place had indeed been sent in error on March 30. “It was quickly rectified.”
