István Szebeni became the Ráckeve mayor candidate of Fidesz

TV personality István Szebeni is running Ráckevén as a mayoral candidate for Fidesz.

The news was announced by Szebeni on his Facebook page. He wrote that the local organization of the ruling party unanimously voted for his candidacy, which was supported by the district’s parliamentary representative, Károly Pánczél.

Szebeni gained national fame in 2013 after he was fired from public television for swearing. He later transferred to Echo TV and then to TV2. He left the latter place last spring.

In Ráckevén, Fidesz still won all the constituencies in 2014, but in 2019 the political tide turned. The mayor of the small town, Zoltán Vereckei, became the head of the organization Keve, which was formed from their wild places. And Keve won seven out of eight constituencies.

However, the organization soon lost most of them, which the three of them left behind. In 2023, there was another turning point, after the by-election announced in one of the districts was won by the candidate of Fidesz. We wrote more about Ráckeve’s political life in this article.
