It’s raining diamonds on these planets

The James Webb Space Telescope officially goes live. Scientists will study many objects over the next few months. Two of them are part of the solar system. The atmosphere of the icy giants Uranus and Neptune is of interest to researchers. In fact, it is composed of a large amount of methane, which explains the blue color of these two planets.

Diamonds

Their hypothesis states that diamonds would fall from the sky. The interaction of solar radiation and methane produces large amounts of carbon in the upper layers of the atmosphere. The extreme atmospheric conditions that prevail there have the effect of pulverizing the carbon atoms to transform them into diamonds. The James Webb telescope will make it possible to verify the phenomenon by scrutinizing the deeper layers of the atmosphere of Neptune and Uranus.
