What exactly is Just Dance.
There will still be plenty of people for whom Just Dance 2024 Edition will be their very first Just Dance experience. Despite this, you don’t have to be very smart to know what to do in Just Dance, because you already know it by reading the title of this game. All you have to do is dance. Fortunately, as a beginner or experienced dancer, you don’t have to invent the dance steps yourself, but you can follow the coaches’ different choreographies with a Joy-Con in your hand or via your smartphone thanks to Just Dance 2023 Controller app. This might seem a bit strange since Just Dance 2024 Edition is already available, but that’s because both Just Dance games are in the same app, with Just Dance having adopted Gaas last year. You can follow the choreographies by watching the coach or by glancing at the bottom right of the screen. Here you can see the so-called pictograms, which always show you with a picture what the next move will be. All you have to do is perform this dance step at the right time. Of course, the sun rises for nothing, so you’ll have to do your best if you want to get a good score. With each move you can see at the top of the screen how well you are doing with the “ok”, “good”, “great”, “perfect” rating effects and sometimes the special “yeah” rating effect “. These words are an indication of the final score you will receive. If you do this very well, you could be called a superstar or even a megastar. If you see a cross at the top of the screen, that means you’ve skipped a dance step. But don’t worry, because you can still get a high score. Last year, a new era of dance had begun. For the first time in a very long time, almost everything about Just Dance had changed. The user interface was completely polished, we could dance online with our friends and we were presented with personalized playlists. The biggest change from the 2022 episode was the conversion of 2D worlds to 3D worlds. This meant that the backgrounds, among other things, had much more depth and detail.
Of course, all these new features from the 2023 edition are also still present in Just Dance Edition 2024, but fortunately some things have also been added. Of course, there are still 50 rewards to unlock, although you will only be able to do so once you have unlocked all the rewards from the previous Just Dance. Either way, there’s plenty to compete for, including characters, backgrounds and borders for your dancer card, all-new emotes, and much more. There’s also good news for people who want to know how much they burn when they exercise. Because yes, Just Dance can be quite intensive. Sweat mode is back, but with a new name. Nowadays it’s called practice mode. Although this mode does exactly the same thing in theory and in practice. It keeps track of calories burned for you. However, it must be said that the training mode is not super precise. This is certainly the case with the quieter songs. You would then only burn a few calories, whereas if we use an activity tracker the number is much higher. This year it is also possible to compete with any Just Dance player. You can challenge anyone in the world, including your friends. This mode doesn’t really do much, but it might inspire you to try even harder so you can finally beat this person. What’s really cool is that Just Dance 2023 Edition players can also jump into the practice and challenge mode. It became a free update for them! Besides, there is something special in this update. It is now possible to share songs between the 2023 and 2024 versions. Imagine that a friend has Just Dance 2024 Edition and you only have Just Dance 2023 Edition. If we want to dance together online, you can both dance to Just Dance 2023 and 2024 songs.
Novelties ?
Last year we received a very special playlist called Enter the Danceverses, which was supposed to represent a sort of story mode. In this, you were given the task of dancing to defeat the Night Swan because she had cursed the Danceverses. Peace seemed to have returned, but nothing could be further from the truth. Night Swan is back in Just Dance 2024 Edition and that means there’s more story for fans! In this brand new playlist with a story, called “Dancing with the Swan”, you and the same coaches try to beat her again. This all seems to work, but Night Swan has gotten even stronger and in the end you see a pretty open ending. Because the story continues where it left off, several coaches from last year are also returning. As a result, there are fewer original characters in Just Dance 2024 Edition. It’s a bit of a shame because it’s always nice to see other coaches. On the other hand, we also understand that the story could go even further and that Wanderlust, Brezziana and Sara, among others, are back in this game. Fortunately, a number of new trainers have also been added and bring innovation, but we’ll talk about that later. Believe it or not, Just Dance 2024 Edition is even more colorful and original than Just Dance 2023 Edition. These backgrounds, also called 3D worlds, look super beautiful thanks to the use of bright blue, pink, yellow and green colors. Now that we’re on the subject of colorful: the prize for most beautiful 3D world undoubtedly goes to It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams. Yes, it’s not Christmas yet, but the preview of this dance is so cool we had to perform it. By the way, there is a song that I think has no place in this game. We are talking about My Name Is by D Billions, both in terms of color and style, this dance fits very well with Just Dance 2021. This is because the background is a 2D world and therefore no longer goes well with the rest of all the songs in Just Dance 2024 Edition.
As in previous years, a few original worlds have been created, which is more than welcome. For example, the song Chaise Longue by Wet Leg resembles a painting at every moment. The paper version of AURORA’s Cure For Me is also of very good quality. As you might expect, during this song you dance like a paper coach in a paper world. The look was very reminiscent of the Paper Mario games and it was pretty fun to see. There is also a world made of clay, which can be seen when dancing to Rapper’s Delight by Groove Century. Our favorite stop-motion raccoons, pandas and reindeer also return this year in Shine a Little Love from The Sunlight Shakers. The last original world is Wasabi from Little Mix. In this world, everything seems to be drawn with a pencil. Even though all of these worlds seem fantastical in their own way, it’s not always easy to dance. It’s sometimes a little difficult because of the animations. Fortunately, despite this, there are still enough normal dances where you can dance with a real coach. So if these special worlds aren’t for you, don’t be disappointed.

VERDICT
If you like dancing, you will definitely like Just Dance 2024 Edition. Provided you like the songs and keep in mind that this game doesn’t really do anything different from its predecessor. Yes, there will be a new practice mode and a new challenge mode this year, but Just Dance 2023 Edition players will also have access to them. So the only thing that’s really new is the 40 songs. Despite the big changes from last year, we secretly hoped that this game really added something new. For example, think about the World Dance Floor from a few years ago, where you could line dance with random people. However, it is nice that all dances from both games can now be found in one place.
