Mumbai: Chief selector Chetan Sharma has rejected Virat Kohli in the captaincy controversy and backed BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. Chetan Sharma has said that Virat Kohli has been asked to continue as captain of the India T20I Men’s Captain.

Chief selector Chetan Sharma has said that Virat Kohli was stepping down from the captaincy despite the selection committee deciding that one captain was enough for ODIs and Twenty20s. Chetan said he was not interested in supporting Sourav Ganguly but in winning the team. The Chief Selector said that the selection committee has high hopes for the leadership of KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli’s resignation was announced just hours before his departure for the tour of South Africa. “All members of the BCCI welcomed the resignation of the T20 captain,” Kohli told a news conference.

Ganguly had earlier claimed that he and the chief selector had spoken to Kohli before handing over the ODI captaincy to Rohit. Ganguly said the BCCI had asked Kohli to stay in the T20 captaincy. Chief selector Chetan Sharma has confirmed Ganguly’s claim.
