Lodi Prefect and CGIL Probe Exploitation in Sushi Restaurants

Lodi and Sudmilano labor authorities and worker representatives are convening an urgent prefectural meeting following allegations of severe workplace exploitation and inadequate sanitary conditions at local “all you can eat” sushi restaurants.

The intervention follows a formal complaint filed by a 30-year-old worker from Bangladesh who reported working off-the-books without paid sick leave or vacation time.

Understanding Workplace Exploitation and Occupational Health Risks

Occupational health hazards in unregulated commercial kitchens extend beyond labor violations into systemic public health risks. Chronic underpayment and the absence of paid sick leave compel employees to work while infectious. This dynamic directly compromises food safety protocols.

Prefectural Intervention and Inspectorate Mobilization in Lodi

During Thursday’s meeting at the prefecture on corso Umberto, Cgil representatives met with Prefect Davide Garra and the chief of cabinet to address labor conditions across local establishments. Fausto Durante, the new head of Cgil, presented the case of the 30-year-old whistleblower to state authorities.

«Al prefetto abbiamo posto la questione dei lavoratori dei sushi all you can eat, a seguito del caso della lavoratrice che ha denunciato sfruttamenti sul lavoro e scarse norme di igiene», explains Fausto Durante.

Prefect Garra confirmed that a provincial labor observatory is already active and agreed to broaden institutional coordination. The upcoming sessions will incorporate the labor inspectorate and municipal authorities, who hold statutory responsibility for enforcing sanitary regulations within their respective jurisdictions.
