M+ Museum Marks Fifth Anniversary with MoMA and Centre Pompidou Alliance

Marking its fifth anniversary, Hong Kong’s M+ Museum has welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors annually for the past three years in a row, totaling over 12.5 million visits since its opening. To celebrate the milestone, the institution is launching a new cultural alliance with New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Paris’s Centre Pompidou.

The contemporary art institution has established itself as one of the foremost contemporary art institutions in Asia. As part of its anniversary celebrations, M+ has detailed a roster of upcoming exhibitions and professional initiatives slated through late 2027.

M+ Milestone and Alliance Highlights

  • Visitor Milestones: M+ has recorded over 12.5 million total visits since opening five years ago, welcoming more than 2.5 million visitors annually for the past three years in a row.

Global Alliance With MoMA and Centre Pompidou

United by a common dedication to advancing artistic innovation and growing public participation via exchange and research, this fresh cultural partnership unites three premier collecting organisations. Suhanya Raffel, the museum director at M+, stated that the alliance brings together organizations dedicated to supporting artistic innovation and expanding public engagement through international research and exchange.

According to M+, the collaboration aims to integrate perspectives from Hong Kong and the region into a broader global dialogue. Additionally, November marks the launch of the M+ Academy initiative, which seeks to support existing and emerging museum professionals. Aiming to expand the professional pipeline for arts organisations and museums alike, this program equips cultural workers with essential connections, resources, mentorship, and opportunities.

“Five years ago, M+ opened with an ambitious vision: to create a museum rooted in Hong Kong and engaged with the world,” Paulo Pong said in a statement. “More than 12.5 million visits later, we can see how strongly that vision has resonated. This anniversary is an opportunity to thank the people who made it possible, from our museum team and supporters to the visitors who have made M+ part of their lives.”
