President Najib Mikati spoke with remarkable sympathy about President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, and said that their relationship is good, according to what the Al-Ansar website indicated.
In a chat with Al-Istehr, Mikati explained the stages and stations that the government formation process has gone through since his assignment, noting that in the crowd of parliamentary elections last May, and when President Michel Aoun asked him about the next government, he quickly answered frankly, saying that he did not expect that There will be a government after the elections because no one will be satisfied with the formation of one “to your taste” that will complete the course of the covenant.
Mikati denied what was rumored by some of those surrounding Aoun about his unwillingness to form a government and stresses that if he was not willing to do so, he would not have presented a formation immediately after the non-binding parliamentary consultations were completed. .
Mikati indicated that he overlooked the leak of the squad and the palace’s failure to respond after that to a request for a meeting date, and went to the Republican Palace and met with President Aoun, who approached him with a request to expand the government to thirty ministers by adding state ministers, which he was not enthusiastic about on the grounds that it would open a new “problem” in The issue of naming and selection is indispensable, so the research returned to making an amendment to two names in the current government.
Mikati also made it clear that he did not mind Aoun naming the two alternatives as part of his share, but he pointed out that he needs to obtain the support of Akkar’s Sunni deputies and the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, in order for the government to gain the required confidence.
While Mikati expressed optimism about the formation of the government and his readiness to achieve this goal, he stressed that the most important thing is to elect a president.
And on the statement issued by the Supreme Islamic Sharia Council, Mikati revealed that he had read it after its issuance and the price of its content. He said, “His Eminence, the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, worked to be “calm” and objective, while the voices of a large number of members wanted him to be “sharp” and direct in response to the Presidency of the Republic.
Regarding the Iranian fuel presented as a gift, Mikati stated that it is welcomed, and there is a technical committee studying its specifications, and if it finds it matching, we will accept the gift.
On the subject of demarcation, Mikati said that it will happen, knowing that the issue of give and take is natural in such cases.
In addition, Mikati did not comment on what the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gibran Bassil, told Al-Akhbar today, only saying, “Our priority is to work to save the country and form the government. As for controversy and debate, it has its whims and they can say what they want. The facts are clear and the constitution is clear.”
