THE MINISTER of Trade (Mendag), Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), destroyed various imported goods worth IDR 9.3 billion in Citeureup, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday (28/3) morning. The majority of imported goods come from China, especially solar panels which have been imported for three months in 2024.

The destruction process is carried out by destroying and partially burning. These goods were confiscated from the Bekasi Commercial Order Monitoring Center during January-February 2024, because they did not meet the standards for imported goods set by the government.

According to Zulkifli Hasan, this destruction aims to protect consumers from products that do not meet Indonesian National Standards (SNI) as well as protect domestic industry from imported products that do not comply with regulations.

“We are protecting consumers so that they are not harmed by goods that are inappropriate or do not meet the requirements. Of course to protect the domestic industry,” said the man who is familiarly called Zulhas.

On the same occasion, the Director General of PKTN, Moga Simatupang, explained that the destruction of imported goods was an implementation of Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 51 of 2020 concerning Inspection and Supervision of Import Trading Procedures after Passing through the Customs Area.

In terms of value, the products destroyed include electronic products from Thailand with a customs value of IDR 266 million, chili powder and chili paste from China worth IDR 1.5 billion, chocolate powder from Malaysia IDR 600 million, soy sauce from Singapore with a value of IDR 700 million, sauces chili sauce from Thailand Rp

242 million, liquid chocolate from Malaysia Rp. 447 million. Then there are also forestry products from Japan worth IDR 452 million, including solar panels.

The importer destroyed these goods under supervision from the Ministry of Trade, because they had violated provisions such as not being accompanied by a surveyor’s report or import approval, and not having a goods registration card number. (Ssr/Z-7)
