Motorcycle driver died after police chase in Trondheim

The police reported the accident at approximately 12:45, writes Trøndelag police district in a press release. The deceased has not yet been formally identified, and the next of kin have not been notified.

– This is a tragic accident where a person has lost their life. We are now focused on identifying the deceased and looking after the next of kin and our employees, says police station chief Arve Nordtvedt at Trondheim Sentrum police station in a press release.

Because of the motorcyclist’s traffic behaviour, the police became aware of the driver ahead of the accident. Nordtvedt explains that the police tried to stop the motorcyclist, who ignored the police and drove on.

A police patrol followed the motorcyclist, who later drove off the road. The person was pronounced dead at the scene by health personnel a short time later. However, Nordtvedt believes that the accident happened after the police had stopped the pursuit.

– Based on the information we now have, the pursuit was called off before the accident occurred, he says.

The Bureau for Police Affairs is routinely notified of the incident, and it is up to the Bureau to assess the course of the accident.

– The purpose of the investigation is to shed light on whether the police have done anything criminal in connection with the possible pursuit of the motorcycle and the specific circumstances of the police’s performance of duty in this regard, writes the Bureau in a press release.
