New supermarket comes to Germany – and could be dangerous for Aldi

German supermarkets have to face a new competitor this year: Oda wants to make shopping as convenient as possible in the future. The Norwegian company promises to deliver all weekly groceries right to your doorstep.

Everything runs via an app – so there is no need to stroll through the store. The test phase will start in Berlin in January 2023. Oda, founded in 2013 under the name Colonial, expanded to Finland last year. The German market is to be conquered this year.

In Germany, the company competes with food delivery services such as Bringmeister, Picnic, Getir and Gorillas, but also with the stationary supermarket Rewe, which offers its own delivery service. But what are the chances of success?

Oda spokeswoman Timea Rüb is confident about CHIP: “In Norway, we have become the market leader in the online food category over the past nine years with a sophisticated logistics system. We believe that it is precisely this operational excellence that makes us successful in the German market will.”
