“Next winter will be the big problem”

This is a data that is at the center of all attention. The price of gas on the wholesale market is the subject of all the concerns and hopes of citizens who see the prices of their bills soar. And if the evolution of the course is encouraging for the moment (a decrease of almost half over the last six weeks), the concern remains. Not for this winter, although it is/will still be complicated for customers under variable contracts, but for next year.

In any case, this is the concern of expert André Jurres, an energy entrepreneur currently active in hydrogen. Asked by our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad, he predicts complications for the future. “This year, Russia has again supplied gas and the gas storages are well filled. But that won’t be the case next year. It will then become extremely expensive to replenish gas stocks. It will never work with LNG (liquefied natural gas) alone, This could have an impact on the price and the security of supply”, he declares.

However, he insists that this is only a scenario. “Winter could also be very mild,” he adds. Gas stocks are therefore an element to which particular attention must be paid. If at the moment they are full in our country and in our neighbors, the question is what will happen if the reserves are exhausted.
