The Olympic Flame will pass through Patras on April 25, on its journey to Paris for the 33rd Olympiad. During its passage, it will honorably stand in the house where the creator of the Olympic Anthem, Kostis Palamas, was born. A small honoring ceremony is organized this day, at 4.30 pm, at 241 Corinthou Street, by the “Kostis Palamas” House of Letters.
Therefore, our city will participate in an event of worldwide radiation with a short, but important in terms of historical memory and artistic value event, which will honor the ideals of Olympism, but also its cultural identity.

For the preparation and implementation of this event, the House of Letters collaborates with the city’s cultural institutions. And this, because the Olympic Anthem articulates the set of Olympic ideals in today’s era and promotes universal values. It is interesting to highlight its importance, as a cultural event, in the poetic landmark, which has been established in our city.
It collaborates with the “Polyphonic Choir of Patras”, which under the direction of its Artistic Director Mo Stavros Solomos, is responsible for the artistic part of the event. Important here is the contribution of the renowned mezzo-soprano Irini Karagianni, in curating the program.
The Greek High School of Patras will honor the event, with the presentation of performances and its participation in the event.
The French Institute in Patras, will participate with recitations, will introduce us to the climate of the Olympic Games in Paris, with song and choreography by the students of the Institute. In addition, a member of the French National Assembly will welcome the event.
The main action is marked, obviously, by the recitation of the Olympic Anthem and the act of honoring the Poet and his work. The Olympic Movement is represented at the event by the head of the Greek Olympic Mission in Paris, fellow citizen Mr. Petros Synodinos.
The “Kostis Palamas” House of Letters invites the Patrons to attend the event, honoring the Poet and the spirit of the Olympic Games.
