The City of Phoenix Human Services Department has launched a new navigation initiative designed to help residents successfully participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, providing guidance on applications, renewals, and work requirements. The municipal service ensures applicants can accurately compile and submit complete information to the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
City officials clarified that municipal staff do not determine eligibility, approve or renew benefits, or officially administer SNAP. Instead, staff are available to help residents comprehend state-mandated requirements and prepare submissions. The assistance spans one-on-one help with initial applications, ongoing renewals, meeting work requirements, and offering post-application support.
“Navigating the SNAP application process can be complicated, and this program ensures Phoenix families have the support they need,” Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Far too many people are losing their nutritional safety net because of federal changes, paperwork errors, and red tape. This initiative is a critical lifeline to keep children from going hungry, and families and seniors who are struggling with the high cost of food.”
Appointment Scheduling and Community Clinic Locations
Residents seeking hands-on assistance can schedule an appointment online through the official Phoenix SNAP navigation portal. Walk-in visits are also welcomed during normal business hours at the City of Phoenix Family Services Centers.

To bolster outreach, municipal staff are hosting ongoing community clinics. A scheduled session is set for Wednesday, October 28th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Emmett McLoughlin C.T.E.C., with future dates posted on the city’s website.
To streamline appointments, visiting residents are advised to bring identity verification, proof of address, household income details, Social Security numbers, bank statements, documentation regarding volunteer hours or federal workforce programs, and any DES notices concerning updates or renewals.
“Our goal is to make the SNAP process easier, clearer, and less stressful,” said Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards. “We want residents to feel confident and prepared every step of the way.”
State Portal Access and Statewide Resources
Alongside direct municipal assistance, the city connects participants with broader tools. These include Wildfire Arizona, which operates a statewide SNAP resource locator, and Health-e-Arizona Plus, the official application portal managed by DES.
