Rector of the CNE formalizes request to discuss vote abroad

Caracas.- The rector of the National Electoral Council, Enrique Márquez, reported that this Thursday he formalized the request before the plenary session of the institution to proceed to debate the regulations that will govern the voting of Venezuelans abroad for the presidential elections scheduled for 2024.

Rector Márquez specified that this set of rules will facilitate the exercise of the right to vote established in the Constitution for nationals living outside the country, “just as we have promised.”

Yesterday we consigned to the plenary of the CNE, a formal request to begin the discussion of a Regulation that regulates and facilitates the exercise of the constitutional right to vote for all Venezuelans abroad, as we have promised.

For their part, representatives of civil society, specialists from the CNE and members of the Popular Political Unit 89 (UPP 89) concluded this week the drafting of the proposal for a regulation to activate suffrage abroad.

José Luis Castañeda, coordinator of Electoral Affairs of the UPP89, told Unión Radio that only the steps contemplated by Venezuelan law remain, such as the presentation of the document before the CNE board for its respective discussion, annotations and suggestions.

Castañeda announced that it will be up to the embassies, consulates or government offices abroad to install these operations so that the nationals attend the registration. He stated that in a month or two he will take on this task.
