“This Friday evening, we received the judgment of the Council of State which rejects the appeal for suspension of the company which was not retained (Editor’s note: the manufacturer Degotte). This decision finally allows us to order the modules. This means less insecurity concerning the installation of the new (temporary) school”, announces relieved the acting mayor, Alexandre Loffet (PS). An important step in the planning for the reconstruction of the damaged school. “As long as the current temporary school is present, work cannot begin. “As of Monday, the order for new, more qualitative modules can be launched, indicates the City of Verviers. “There are no more uncertainties and that’s a great relief.”
On the side of the school concerned, the news was eagerly awaited. “I warned my teachers and we are very happy because twice the project has been postponed. Now our educational projects will be able to materialize, it’s only positive!”, rejoices the director of the primary school, Véronica Liz. The situation had been complicated for both teachers and parents “for a year and a half. The children are still adapting quite quickly”.
As a reminder, a first public market had been launched and then relaunched because the latter included a significant degree of uncertainty. The competing company not selected, the manufacturer Degotte, had appealed to the Council of State to challenge the award of the contract.
Consequence: the execution of the public contract has been delayed. After an emergency procedure, the decision fell this weekend, the Council of State gives reason to the City of Verviers. The order of the prefabricated modules can be launched soon and the demolition work in a second phase.
The company that has not been selected can still resort to cancellation, however the procedures on the side of the municipal school can already begin.
Like a real school!
The teaching staff who participated in the development of the prefabricated modules are delighted with “this wonderful news that we will be able to announce to the parents who have stayed. After the floods, they really showed patience and trust in the teaching team”, emphasizes the director.
Teachers will recover space such as a psychomotricity room or two playgrounds. “Children will be able to take advantage of the development of Godin Park which will be next door.” These are motivating prospects for educational support and the many ideas waiting.
In addition, moments of sharing with families will be possible again in these facilities. “We will be able to rethink our Fancy-fairs, our school dinners, … We will find the total functioning of a school, without constraints. We’re getting a real school back! ”
Note that the manufacture of the modules should take about two months. The director hopes that everyone will be able to take advantage of the new temporary school by the end of 2023, which will be installed on rue des Weines.
