Freddy Fermin, star receiver of the Caracas Lions, will not continue with the team for this season, after the Lions made it official through their social networks that the Kansas City Royals, Fermín’s organization in the United States, has decided to stop the action of the league bat champion immediately.
Fermín has been nominated in the last few hours for two individual awards at the Los Grandes de la LVBP gala: the Victor Davalillo Award for Most Valuable Player; and the Rookie of the Year Award. All this thanks to his great performance this season, in which he batted .404, taking the batting title.
After the announcement, Meridiano contacted Richard Gómez, sports manager of the Leones del Caracas, who expanded on the news and also specified the Leones’ plan to deal with Fermín’s absence.

“The Fermín thing was somewhat surprising. Kansas City had not told us anything that they were going to stop him or that he could play for a certain time”affirmed Richard Gómez, who despite the surprising situation, understands well the decision of the Royals. “It’s understandable because Salvador is going to the Classic. They’re going to need someone to be the number one or number two catcher in Spring Training, and Fermín is going to take that position.”he assured.
Regarding the planning of the Lions, Gómez assured that they will trust what they have and that they will wait for the recovery of Wilfredo Giménez, which should not take long. “We will evaluate Giménez on Tuesday, that day they remove the splint from his foot and we will evaluate him well, but in principle he would be out for 8-10 days. For the next three games, we have Jhonny Pereda and Juan Carlos Torres”he explained.
Gómez also affirmed that the news of Fermín’s departure reached them yesterday, in which the Leones del Caracas had no activity. “They (Kansas City) spoke with Fermín, and then he spoke with us at night” assured Gómez, who also clarified that the arrival of Juan Carlos Torres had nothing to do with the departure of Fermín. “The Torres thing was for Giménez, to cover the 10 days off. The Fermín thing took us by surprise”sentenced.
