security at stadiums increased after ISIS threats

Following threats from the Islamic State terrorist group, the Champions League quarter-finals are being played under unprecedented security measures.

In Paris, where PSG and Barcelona meet on Wednesday, police evacuated parked cars and installed concrete blocks near the Parc des Princes stadium. Additional police forces have been deployed. This was reported by the French Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The day before on Tuesday, similar measures were taken at the Emirates in London, the home stadium of Arsenal, which hosted Bayern Munich. Police also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to security at the stadium.

“Well, I think with what’s going on in the world right now, we can expect a lot. That’s my guess,” says one fan.

On the same day, Real Madrid and Manchester City met at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital. Ahead of the match, Spain’s Sports Minister Pilar Alegría called for calm and said more than 2,000 police and Civil Guard personnel were deployed to ensure security. Today in Madrid there will be another match – Atlético will take on Borussia Dortmund.
