Last eruption caused radio and internet outages
Nasa also expects consequences for the Earth: There may be an increase in northern lights if the particles burn up in the atmosphere, but also disruptions to satellites, radio and internet connections. The phenomenon takes around one to three days to reach Earth, so the most severe consequences are expected for us on December 17th.
The last eruption of similar size occurred in 2017, causing radio and internet blackouts in South America.
