Lifting Off From Vandenberg
The Starlink Group 15-24 flight cleared the pad at 7:26 a.m. PDT (14:26 UTC). This mission continued the heavy cadence of low Earth orbit network expansions concentrated primarily out of California. According to SpaceX documentation, Vandenberg currently handles all Starlink launches following SpaceX’s suspension of Florida missions pending Starship operations on the Space Coast.
About 8.5 minutes after liftoff, the first-stage booster, designated B1088, executed a precise propulsive landing on the autonomous drone ship Of Course I Still Love You stationed in the Pacific Ocean. This milestone marked the 19th flight for booster B1088. Its previous payload assignments included NROL-126, Transporter-12, SPHEREx, NROL-57, and multiple preceding Starlink flights, keeping its total flight count safely below the current fleet record of 37 flights set by booster B1067 on August 25.
Orbits, Propulsion, and Inter-Satellite Architecture
Following stage separation, the Falcon 9 upper stage successfully deployed the 27 broadband satellites on schedule approximately 62 minutes into the flight. Launch delivery, however, represents only the initial phase of deployment. Starlink spacecraft rely on onboard low-thrust electric propulsion systems to systematically alter their orbital parameters, raising their operational altitude from initial drop-off points to their designated network slots.
Data compiled by satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell notes that the overarching constellation now houses more than 11,000 active satellites. To handle shifting traffic loads across this vast orbital array, the constellation implements optical intersatellite links. Each spacecraft incorporates three distinct laser links operating at speeds up to 200 gigabits per second. These laser paths route data traffic dynamically through space, minimizing dependency on ground stations and extending routing alternatives across oceanic and remote landmasses.
The 2026 Launch Cadence and the Shift to V3
Starlink flights command an overwhelming majority of SpaceX’s manifest. Deployments for the mega-constellation account for 80 of the 103 total Falcon 9 missions executed through early September 2026—representing roughly 78 percent of the company’s yearly flight rate.

Despite the current reliance on Falcon 9 workhorses, infrastructure evolution looms on the horizon. SpaceX is engineering a transition toward larger spacecraft designs known as V3 satellites. Company leadership, including Elon Musk, has stated an ambition to deploy roughly 100,000 V3 spacecraft into low Earth orbit. Achieving this massive scale requires shifting satellite delivery operations over to the Starship vehicle platform, making upcoming heavy-lift developments critical to the next generation of broadband expansion.
