Nature Medicine magazine indicates that the development of diabetes in its first and second types leads to a disorder in the metabolism of sugar and causes an imbalance in the body of the affected person. For example, a person with diabetes suffers from non-healing wounds, a weak immune system, and urinary tract infections.
According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, approximately 463 million people worldwide suffer from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The first type is caused by autoimmune diseases, and the second is caused by a chronically high blood sugar level.
Excess weight is one of the main risk factors for the disease. Because the high level of sugar and insulin in the blood often accompanies weight gain, which in many cases leads to rapid depletion of the pancreas and the development of type 2 diabetes.
The artificial pancreas, which was tested in Britain, constantly monitors the change in the concentration of sugar in the patient’s body, and determines the amount of insulin that must be pumped into the blood, in the event of a sharp rise.
And the results of testing the artificial pancreas on 26 volunteers with the severe form of type 2 diabetes over a four-week period showed that it succeeded in its job completely, as doctors noticed the stability of the blood sugar level in all patients during 66 percent of the time, and this was what was happening. It is used by patients when insulin is injected into the body several times a day. It was found that the new treatment method reduced the average blood sugar level by 36 percent compared to insulin injections.
