A first obstacle in front of the tripartite Morocco-Spain-Portugal candidacy for the organization of the 2030 World Cup is crumbling on Thursday.
According to several sources including “Marca”, Saudi Arabia has decided to reiterate its joint bid (Saudi Arabia-Egypt-Greece) for the organization of the 2030 World Cup.
“Marca” add that the Saudis have already informed the Egyptians and Greeks about the precise decision.
The reason: no chance of competing with the common project of Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
Egypt and Greece will follow in Saudi Arabia’s footsteps on the basis of the joint candidacy of the 3 countries.
In addition to Morocco, Portugal and Spain, there is a second candidacy still in the running, that of the South Americans: Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay, who are also presenting a joint candidacy.
FIFA will have to decide in December 2024 which of the two applications will be validated.
