The Judicial Council discussed the prime minister’s step and how to respond to it, and it is remarkable that the council, originally divided over the Beirut port explosion file, did not reach an understanding, and a judicial source explained to Asharq Al-Awsat that “the division dominated the discussions, which necessitated the withdrawal of 3 members, and the loss of the session.” legal quorum.
The source confirmed that the council’s president, Judge Suhail Abboud, “insisted on issuing a statement asking the prime minister and the interior minister to reverse their decision, which was objected to by the members who refused to do so, and demanded that the prime minister and interior minister be addressed through the minister of justice (Henry al-Khoury), and not via a media statement.
One of the council members who left the meeting explained that “no official minutes of the meeting were organized, and no one signed it, and the discussions were an exchange of opinions and viewpoints, and no final position was agreed upon.”
