The Myth of Arab Victimization: Philosophical Perspective by Cornélius Castoriadis and Didier Gosuin

Text by philosopher Cornélius Castoriadis shared by Didier Gosuin.

“The Arabs now present themselves as the eternal victims of the West. It is a grotesque mythology. The Arabs have been, since Mohammed, a conquering nation, which expanded into Asia, Africa and Europe by Arabizing the conquered populations. […]. The current expansion of the Arabs (and of Islam) is the product of conquest and the more or less forced conversion to Islam of subject populations. […] I don’t believe in current chatter about the coexistence of any cultures in diversity […]. We must move away from the generalized hypocrisy that characterizes contemporary discourse. Muslims can only live in France to the extent that, in practice, they agree not to be Muslims on a series of points. It is characteristic that the few Arab intellectuals who until now were believed to be imbued with the values of criticism and reflection now actively participate in a mythologization of Arab history, in which the Arabs have been, for thirteen centuries, white doves and all their evils are inflicted on them by Western colonization.”
