The undesirable head of the Riga department will be fired through the courts

According to the local government, the fact that Vaivods is recognized as a suspect in a criminal trial does not allow the local government to continue labor relations with him and is an important reason for going to court with a demand to terminate them.

The fact that Vaivodas is suspected of bribery is incompatible with working in the municipality and in the department responsible for major city infrastructure development projects.

Suspect status also undermines the reputation of the municipality, as the officer may have acted contrary to the principles of the rule of law and good governance, and increases public distrust in public authorities and self-government.

According to Article 101(5) of the Labor Law, an important reason is any circumstance which, for reasons of morality and mutual justice, prevents the continuation of the employment relationship. According to the municipality, the question of whether there is an important reason should be decided by the court.

It has already been reported that in early March the leadership of the Riga City Council ordered Vaivods to be removed from his duties for the maximum period allowed by law – three months.
