(CNN) – On Friday, US President Joe Biden confirmed the American assessment that Israel “is not responsible” for the explosion that occurred at Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza.

Biden added, during a speech he delivered from the Oval Office to the American people: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Palestinian lives, including the explosion that occurred in the hospital in Gaza, which was not committed by the Israelis.”

He continued: “We mourn every innocent life lost, and we cannot ignore the humanity of innocent Palestinians who just want to live in peace and have a chance.”

The American President said, “The world cannot abandon the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite the difficulty of the matter, we cannot abandon peace. We cannot abandon the two-state solution.” He added that “Israel and the Palestinians both deserve to live in Safety, dignity and peace.”

The US President said that he would send an “urgent request” to Congress to “fund US national security needs to support our important partners, including Israel and Ukraine.”

He added about this request that it is “a smart investment that will pay dividends for American security for generations. Help us keep American forces out of harm’s way, and help us build a safer, more peaceful, and more prosperous world for our children and grandchildren.”

He described the request as “an unprecedented commitment to Israel’s security,” and continued: “It will increase Israel’s qualitative military superiority, which is what we have committed to.”
