US Still Needs to Strike Remaining Iranian Nuclear Sites, Says Trump

Trump Points to Final Targets After Dismantling Major Infrastructure

The United States must still address one or two remaining targets in Iran despite having already dismantled a significant portion of the nation’s nuclear infrastructure, according to Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Florida, Trump suggested that operations against these final locations could be executed swiftly. While Tehran has threatened to counter-attack in the event of new strikes, the spectre of a new military escalation is hovering over the Middle East.

The latest warnings follow months of fragile calm in the region following a brief yet intense military conflict earlier in the year. Full-scale hostilities originally erupted on February 28 when US and Israeli forces launched joint strikes against Iranian targets, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Washington’s allies in the Gulf region. Although an April ceasefire brought an end to nearly 40 days of intense bombardments, and a subsequent framework agreement aimed at definitively ending the conflict was concluded in June, tensions steadily mounted over the summer around maritime transit routes.

The Strategic Rift Over the Strait of Hormuz

Friction has increasingly centered on the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran claims control over the vital global oil corridor and routinely targets vessels navigating the passage without its authorization.

Mount Kolang and the Isfahan Province Sites

During his remarks in Florida, Trump specifically highlighted the nuclear-linked landscape in Isfahan province, pointing to Mount Kolang—called “Pickaxe Mountain” in English, with “Kolang” meaning “pickaxe” in Persian—as a primary area of concern situated roughly 200 kilometers south of Tehran near the Natanz nuclear complex.

“Il nous reste encore à nous occuper, je dirais, d’un ou deux sites, mais nous pouvons faire ça en dix minutes (…). Vous pourriez probablement regarder du côté de Pickaxe Mountain, et il faut s’en occuper. Nous pouvons faire tout cela très rapidement”, stated Trump, outlining the scope of potential future actions.

Retaliation Vows and Election Timing

While Washington weighs its options regarding these remaining installations, Tehran has threatened to counter-attack in the event of new strikes. Meanwhile, media reports indicate that a possible short and intense military campaign could be initiated following the US midterm elections scheduled for Tuesday, heightening anxieties across the Middle East as observers monitor the evolving situation.
