Waterford and Dungarvan Route Marks Quarter-Century of Cancer Support
The Waterford City event got underway from the Quay at 10 am today, drawing large crowds following yesterday’s event in Dungarvan. The weekend fundraisers coincide with a significant milestone year, marking 25 years of Solas supporting people and families affected by cancer. Thanks to backing from the community, Solas has been able to expand its offerings throughout Waterford, which featured the launch of its Dungarvan location back in 2016.
Clare Shanahan, Client Services Coordinator with Solas in West Waterford, spoke at the Dungarvan gathering about the emotional resonance of the annual fundraisers. “It’s a real celebration of survival,” Shanahan said at the event. “It is the power of solidarity. It’s families coming together. It’s friends coming together. It’s people being there for people.” Shanahan also pointed out that keeping its current programs running now requires close to €1.5 million annually, as the need for assistance keeps rising.
