On April 11, around 6 p.m., the young man entered the supermarket. Using a knife, he threatened an employee, then seized a sum of money. The loot amounts to 1,195 euros. A day later, he was arrested by the local police of the Limburg Region Capital (LRH) area. The Hasselt investigating judge decided to arrest and place the young man in detention.
The young man was already known to justice. Since the age of 18, he has accumulated around fifteen P.-V. He was no longer allowed to live in the parental home, could not find work and needed money. “My comrade had committed a theft and I told myself that I was going to do the same thing to have money,” he explained to the court. The fact that it seemed to be taken for granted to then commit a robbery by force outraged the sentencing judge.
The prosecution has requested three years in prison, and is considering granting a reprieve for part of the suspended sentence, provided that the young man solves his problem with drugs, since he consumes one and a half grams of cannabis a day . His lawyer Peter Donné suggested sentencing his client to community service, believing that a prison sentence would have disastrous consequences on his social reintegration.
Judgment will be delivered on June 21.
