A partnership between Qatar Energy and Total Energies in the North-South Field Expansion Project

Doha – Mubasher: Qatar Energy Company announced the selection of Total Energy as its first partner in the expansion project of the North-South Field, which includes two giant liquefied natural gas production lines with a total capacity of 16 million tons per year.

According to a statement by “Qatar Energy” yesterday, Sunday, the project will raise Qatar’s total production capacity of liquefied natural gas to 126 million tons annually.

Under the partnership agreement, Total Energies will own 9.375% of the total international partnership interests of 25%, while Qatar Energy will own 75% of the North South Field Expansion Project.

The agreement was signed by Saad Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Energy, and Patrick Pouyanne, Chairman and CEO of Total Energy, in a special ceremony held at Qatar Energy’s headquarters in Doha, in the presence of a number of senior officials from the two companies. .

In a statement during the ceremony, Saad Al Kaabi, who is also the managing director and CEO of Qatar Energy, said: “Qatar Energy is moving forward with its efforts to meet the increasing global demand for cleaner forms of energy, of which liquefied natural gas is the backbone to be an important source of energies. Renewable energy in a realistic, serious and reasonable transition to low-carbon energy.

He continued, “We are investing heavily in reducing the carbon intensity of our energy products, which is a key pillar of Qatar’s energy strategy for sustainability and the transition to low-carbon energy.”

It is noteworthy that the North Field expansion project, which consists of the eastern and southern parts, is the largest project in the history of the liquefied natural gas industry.

Production will start in 2026, adding 48 million tons per year to the world’s LNG supply. Qatar Energy has signed five partnership agreements for the North East Field Expansion Project, which includes four giant liquefied natural gas production lines with a total capacity of 32 million tons per year.
