One year before the municipal elections, each party is more or less in battle order. And Ecolo is no exception to the rule. A list committee was thus created in order to reflect on the composition of the latter. Recently, he submitted a first proposal to activists, in order to allocate the main “prominent” places.
But nothing went as planned…
“The trio proposed for the first places was composed of myself, Zaïna Ihirrou (Editor’s note: municipal councilor Carolo recently) and Julien Lechat (Editor’s note: who works in Xavier Desgain’s office)”, explains Xavier Desgain, outgoing alderman . According to our information, the list committee would also have proposed giving the fifth place to Luc Parmentier, historic face of the Greens in Charleroi, and the last to an activist who entered politics during the regional elections in 2019.

But the majority of activists spoke out against this composition. So where did this go wrong? “I am not going to go into details, but the list committee was in fact asked to continue its work,” continues Xavier Desgain. “We have a very good range of quality candidates and we had a discussion which turned out to be very calm. »
Two problems
The leader of the Ecolos Carolos is showing Sioux prudence, even using downright language… In reality, his place as Number 1 was not contested at all. But the discontent of the activists would have mainly focused on two aspects, according to our information. On the choice of No. 2 and 3, on the one hand. And on the last place, where Luc Parmentier would have been seen, on the other. According to several usually reliable sources, the man, well known in the Carole region, was very upset with the choice proposed by the list committee and would not have held back to make it known. Its weight, internally in the Carolos green authorities, could therefore have played a role in the final result.
Contacted by us, the main person concerned sympathetically but firmly refused to comment. As for the one suggested in last position, she did not respond to our calls this Friday early evening.
This is a first “failure” for Ecolo at the time of launching the campaign for the municipal elections of October 2024, therefore, and we feel the Carolus Greens embarrassed around the time of broaching the subject, even if they strongly try to minimize it. “The list committee, after our constructive discussion, continues its work calmly,” affirms Xavier Desgain once again.
