Sweigard, a longtime Levittown resident and faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the age of 99, as detailed in her Star Ledger obituary. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she spent decades deeply involved in missionary support and family life before her death at home surrounded by loved ones.
Before her retirement, Sweigard worked at WEF Ministries, where she assisted numerous overseas missionaries. Her life was characterized by a deep devotion to her faith and a lasting love for handwork, including knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and sewing. Family members often received handmade gifts crafted over the years. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Eugene Sweigard, and her daughter, Marge Ruffing.
Sweigard is survived by her children Ginny Spadaccino of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, Fred Sweigard of Levittown, Pennsylvania, and Mary Shirakawa of Cape Coral, Florida, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her surviving grandchildren include Steve Spadaccino, Amy Ruffing, Laurie Ruffing, Dan Sweigard, Krista Musselman, Kevin Sweigard, Kylee Shirakawa, Matthew Shirakawa, and Alex Shirakawa.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Eleanor Sweigard on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Family visitation will precede the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A fellowship luncheon will be held in the church hall immediately following the service.
