The heat spreads
A ridge formed offshore, helping to push the mercury up. It could also be the hottest period in the region since the beginning of summer. This period of heat will not help calm the possibility of forest fires, while those already existing could spread further.
In Vancouver, we could exceed 30°C, which is quite unusual for the coastal city. Note that Vancouver has not reached this mark since June 2021. The seasonal high in this city in July is around 23°C.
In recent months, the weather conditions in the region have been particularly wet, which has helped the vegetation to grow. With the hot and dry conditions expected, this could serve as fuel for new forest fires.
Far from the records
Although this heat promises to be unpleasant, it remains far from that of last summer in the region. The extreme heat that hit British Columbia in 2021 not only broke records, it also contributed to a historic wildfire season. Nearly 600 people have died. In Lytton, the mercury reached 49.6°C on June 29. Nearly 90% of the village had been destroyed by the flames, including about thirty houses. This year, Lytton once again has to deal with wildfires.
