• Amazon has been printing books on demand for more than a decade

Books are usually printed in editions – that is, in batches. If a book is not successful, copies remain and the publisher or the authors sit on them, more books are sold than expected, there are delivery bottlenecks and new ones have to be printed as quickly as possible.
Print-on-demand has been around at Amazon for over a decade
Amazon, originally a logistics center for books, introduced another concept over ten years ago that can be particularly helpful for self-publishing authors without a large financial cushion: print-on-demand.
In the process, just as many copies of a book are printed spontaneously and close to the buyer as are (definitely) bought at the moment. This happens quickly, so that, according to Amazon, the print-on-demand books are always ready for dispatch immediately after the order is placed – which, according to the group, also increases demand directly, because products that can be delivered immediately are bought more often than products that customers have been waiting for longer have to wait.
Apparently a new book printing station is to be built in Florida
This concept has been so well received that, according to reports from the US organization Orlando Economic Partnership, Amazon is planning to open a new location for on-demand book production in Florida in the near future: at the end of January, company representatives announced that the Amazon logistics center at Boggy Creek Road such a printing station should be set up in Orlando. This is the first such location within Florida.
Orlando Economic Partnership quoted Jerry Demings, Mayor of Orange County, where the fulfillment center is located, as saying, “We congratulate Amazon on expanding its fulfillment center to include new manufacturing capabilities. [ ] We look forward to supporting the company’s expansion that will bring new jobs and investment capital to Orange County.” More than a hundred new jobs are planned, with Amazon offering a $15 minimum wage and insurance for all full-time employees.
Amazon receives a lot of support for the project
Amazon economist Sam Blatt said: “We are excited to expand our network to better serve our customers in Florida. We are grateful for the support we are receiving from local and state governments [
].”
Tim Ciuliani, CEO of Orlando Economic Partnership, also likes the new book printing station: “We welcome Amazon’s continued expansion in our region and its commitment to promoting prosperity on a broad basis.”
However, it is not yet known exactly when the new print-on-demand station will open. Also, as of early February 2022, there was no official announcement of the project on the Amazon website itself.
