“Are you okay @TF1 ???? Do you mind speeding up Harry Potter? I had a weird impression but now it’s confirmed,” exclaimed a viewer on X (former Twitter).
Indeed, several people wondered if the film “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” had been broadcast in fast motion this Tuesday evening on TF1. The answer is yes. But the channel has nothing to do with it, report our colleagues from L’Union.
If the television broadcast of Harry Potter is slightly faster than its cinema screening, it is simply a question of frame rate per second.
As the famous filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard recalled, “cinema is the truth 24 times per second”. In television, on the other hand, this frequency is slightly higher, at 25 frames per second.
This standard, known in France as PAL-SÉCAM, explains this slight acceleration and the fact that the film was shortened by approximately 7 minutes.
