‘I don’t accept your apologies, they’re insincere’: Chris Rock’s brother charges Will Smith

This March 27 will certainly leave scars. That night, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock after a joke about his wife’s hair. The comedian, who was then presenting an award at the Oscars, obviously did not know that Jada Pinkett Smith suffered from alopecia.

After this scene, which had a huge media impact, Will Smith received the prize for best actor for his role in “The Williams Method”. Since that evening, Will Smith’s projects have been canceled one after the other. Chris Rock’s brother, Kenny, spoke in the columns of the Los Angeles Times. “My brother posed no threat to Will Smith. He showed Chris no respect and put him down in front of millions of viewers”he began.

For him, The Academy did not handle things well during this incident. “He should have been escorted out. I hold them responsible for what happened. He could have done much worse to my brother.”

If he hasn’t watched the live footage, this 42-year-old actor and entrepreneur can’t forget what happened. “It drives me crazy to watch this scene over and over again because I see a loved one being attacked and there’s nothing I can do about it.” He also wanted to defend Chris Rock about any questionable joke. “The joke was funny but not hilarious. I’m sure if he had known Jada had alopecia, he wouldn’t have joked about it”he added.

“I do not accept his apologies”

Since then, everything has accelerated for Will Smith. The actor apologized for his gesture. While the Academy of Oscars has announced the opening of an investigation and its desire to sanction it. The former Prince of Bel Air then resigned spontaneously from The Academy of Oscars while the latter should decide on this subject on April 18. For Kenny Rock, The Academy should go further and dismiss him from his statuette while not inviting him to future ceremonies.

Will Smith also publicly apologized to Chris Rock. Apologies that ring hollow according to the brother of the victim. “Things would have been different if he had apologized from the start, when he went on stage and cried when he received his Oscar. But he didn’t”he points out. “These apologies, I do not accept them because I think they are not sincere. I think his press officer and the people who work under him recommended that he do so”he concluded.

One thing is certain, this story is not over at all and the hatchet is far from being buried.
