Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT SUV, offering three distinct powertrain configurations reaching up to 1,169 horsepower to counter the surging output numbers coming from Chinese automakers.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Offers Three Power Tiers
The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV arrives in three power tiers delivering 544, 816, and 1,169 horsepower, according to 20 Minutes. The flagship GT 63 model deploys three axial-flux electric motors that combine to generate a formidable 2,000 Nm of torque. Factory specifications place the 0 to 100 km/h sprint at 2.7 seconds, with the 0 to 200 km/h interval achieved in 7.2 seconds.
To manage this mass and power on asphalt, Mercedes-AMG utilizes a variable-torque all-wheel-drive system, rear-wheel steering, and an active suspension designed to mitigate body roll and pitch. The vehicle measures over five meters in length and registers up to 2.7 tonnes on the scale.
Oil Cooling Enables Fast Charging and High Power
Beyond acceleration metrics, the engineering focus centers on thermal management and charging speed. The battery cells feature direct cooling via a specialized oil formulation. This configuration allows the GT 55 and GT 63 variants to sustain up to 721 horsepower continuously without thermal derating.
Built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, the 128 kWh battery accepts up to 710 kW of charging power. Mercedes states the system recovers 450 kilometers of range in ten minutes, moving from 10 to 80 percent capacity in 12 minutes. Under current infrastructure limitations, utilizing a 400 kW charger extends the 10-to-80 percent replenishment time to 16 minutes, while maximum total driving range reaches up to 700 kilometers.
