Chip giant Nvidia and the Norrsken Foundation are launching the Stockholm AI Lab in central Stockholm next year. The new hub on Birger Jarlsgatan will pair startups using artificial intelligence for social good with Nvidia technology and financial support, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang visits Sweden for high-level meetings.
Stockholm AI Lab Opens on Birger Jarlsgatan
The impact-tech empire built by Niklas Adalberth is expanding its footprint in the Swedish capital. The Norrsken Foundation is teaming up with American chip giant Nvidia to establish the Stockholm AI Lab, designed as an office and collaborative meeting space for startup companies applying artificial intelligence to real-world challenges.
The new hub will feature a dedicated biotechnology laboratory and opens its doors next year at Birger Jarlsgatan in central Stockholm, situated just a few hundred meters from Norrsken’s existing Stockholm office. Nvidia enters the project as a technology partner, securing its own office space in the building while granting participating startups direct access to advanced Nvidia platforms and infrastructure.
While neither organization has disclosed the total financial outlay for the lab, Norrsken serves as the primary financier and owner of the project. Sofia Lindelöw, Nordic head at the Norrsken Foundation, detailed the structural relationship between the partners in an email by noting that Nvidia acts as a partner, providing both technical infrastructure and financial backing.
Jensen Huang Arrives in Sweden Amid Europe-Wide Investments
The lab announcement coincides with a high-profile visit to Stockholm by Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang.
Congratulations to our Founder and CEO Jensen Huang on receiving an honorary Doctor of Science and Technology degree from @CarnegieMellon, as well as the CMU Class of 2026 graduates. 🎓 https://t.co/MwLxbXiiwD
Europe must get into the race.
Huang’s Stockholm itinerary includes a Thursday afternoon press conference on Skeppsholmen alongside Sferical AI CEO Jenny Nordlöw and Marcus Wallenberg, followed by an evening opening keynote address at Münchenbryggeriet before an assembled audience of Nordic leaders. Analysts and business observers note that while Huang’s high-level meetings spark natural questions regarding prospective joint ventures, no formal agreements or additional Swedish contracts have been officially confirmed ahead of the appearances.
Impact-Driven Technology and AI Safety Safeguards
Admission to the Stockholm AI Lab carries a strict operational requirement: tenant startups must embed a positive social or environmental impact directly into their core business models. As companies scale, their measurable net positive impact must scale alongside them by a factor of at least 1:1 according to Norrsken leadership.

Designing molecules to reduce methane emissions from livestock—that I think is worth it. Building a better ad optimizer—that I do not think it is.

Addressing the massive electricity consumption inherent to modern artificial intelligence infrastructure, Norrsken acknowledges the legitimate environmental footprint while arguing that the utility of the energy expenditure is what matters most. To navigate broader systemic risks surrounding security and data integrity, the foundation has enlisted AI safety advisor Samuel Härgestam from the Astralis Foundation.

Being worried is not the same as being against it. If used correctly and responsibly, AI can bring an enormous positive impact to the world. The choice is not between AI or no AI. It is about making sure the technology is directed toward problems that truly matter.
The Stockholm AI Lab operates as a core component of Norrsken’s broader Prompt what matters
initiative, which encompasses targeted hackathons and direct venture investments aimed at supporting AI enterprises focused on global problem-solving.
