Oisín McConville ratified as Wicklow football manager for 2027 season

Wicklow GAA has officially confirmed that Oisín McConville will remain in charge of the senior footballers for the 2027 campaign. McConville, who took over the managerial reins in 2023, signed a two-year extension in 2025 and has now been ratified to continue leading the Garden County for at least another year, as reported by RTÉ.

The Evolution of McConville’s Tenure in the Garden County

Since arriving in the Garden County ahead of the 2023 season, the Armagh native has quickly established a distinct competitive identity. In his debut campaign, McConville guided Wicklow to promotion from Division 4 into Division 3 of the Allianz League. Although the squad suffered relegation back down in 2024, the management group used those structural lessons to engineer a historic high point during the summer of 2025.

That momentum culminated in a remarkable Tailteann Cup final victory against Down. Trailing by 12 points at half-time and by 13 early in the second half, Wicklow produced an astonishing tactical and psychological response to claw back and win the match by two points.

Backroom Stability and the Road to 2027

The continuity of the backroom staff remains a cornerstone of McConville’s project. Official announcements from Wicklow GAA outline a trusted support system around the manager. Gary Duffy continues his role as selector, while Des Earls drives strength and conditioning. Team administration is managed by Chris O’Connor, with Eugene Dooley and Declan Doyle operating as kitmen, leaving only the combined selector and coach position listed as to be confirmed (TBC).

With ratification secured well in advance of the new season, the management team faces an uninterrupted runway to assess talent pools, refine tactical structures, and prepare the squad for the elite challenges of the Sam Maguire Cup.
