“One of the patients contacted me and he had signs of illness”… Monkeypox cases are increasing in Lebanon?!

Doctor Muhammad Fahmy Kharoub, on the subject of monkeypox and the arrival of a case of it to Lebanon, indicated that a patient had contacted him and “he had signs of illness.”

In an interview with Al-Jadeed, he saw that “the problem is not that there is a case, but rather the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, who is the commander of the White Army.”

He criticized his performance as a minister and his medical team, saying that “there is no vision for him and no plan to deal with cases and take the necessary precautionary measures.”

He revealed that he had replied that “there are two cases from South Africa.”

He described the performance of the Ministry of Health in this context by saying: “The ministry’s performance is a dark stage in Lebanon’s history at the health level.”

He pointed out that “PCR tests are not available in Lebanon, and we need to send the tests abroad for us to do.”

He said, “The Minister of Health ignores everything related to the health sector.”

He pointed out, “It is known that this disease has no vaccine or cure, and therefore precautionary measures must be the spearhead in combating it.”

Regarding the medical treatment of the disease, he explained, “We only give symptom reducers and we recommend isolation, as the disease is transmitted by direct contact and intimate relationships, and it is transmitted from all body fluids.”

On the other hand, he reassured that “the death rate from the disease is 1%, and the transmission rate is much lower than that of Corona.”
