Qatar’s holdings of US Treasuries at a 13-month high

Mubasher – Iman Ghaly: For the third consecutive month, the State of Qatar’s possession of US Treasury bonds continued to rise in July 2022, reaching the highest level since June of the previous year (13 months).

According to the monthly report issued by the US Treasury, last Friday, Qatar’s possession last July amounted to $8.231 billion, an increase of 23.79%, compared to $6.649 billion in the same month last year..

On a monthly basis, Qatar’s possession increased by 13.19%, knowing that it was $7.272 billion in June 2022.

According to the data of the monthly report of the Treasury, all of Qatar’s possession of long-term bonds came last July.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continued to occupy the first Arab position in holding US Treasury bonds with a value of 121.6 billion dollars, followed by the State of Kuwait with 49.4 billion dollars, and thirdly came the United Arab Emirates with a value of 41.3 billion dollars, then Iraq with 34.6 billion dollars.

At the global level, Japan ranked first with US Treasury bonds worth $1.234 trillion, followed by China with $970 billion, and then the United Kingdom with $634.6 billion.

In general, US Treasury bonds in July 2022 amounted to about $7.501 trillion, down 0.79% from their level in the same month last year of $7.567 billion, despite their monthly growth of 0.94%.

It is noteworthy that what the US Treasury discloses in its monthly statements is the investments of countries in US Treasury bills and bonds only, and does not include those other investments in the United States, whether governmental or private..
