The underlying affidavit states that the case began after the mother of a 17-year-old girl alerted authorities to a video showing her daughter and Tyler Boebert having sex posted on Instagram. Court documents indicate the charges involve three counts of sexual exploitation of a child alongside the contributing charges, per records obtained from local reporting.

In that earlier 2024 case, Tyler Boebert and three teenage friends were accused of a string of vehicle trespass and property thefts in Rifle, Colorado, making off with stolen credit cards, gift cards, and cash from parked cars. Although initially facing 22 charges—including four felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony—he ultimately entered a guilty plea to attempted identity theft as part of a plea deal that dropped the remaining counts.
