Sahara: Spain’s “historic” position paves the way for exponential growth in cooperation with Morocco (Spanish political scientist)

Mr. Altamirano, who was speaking at a meeting organized remotely by the Faculty of Languages, Letters and Arts of the Ibn Tofail University of Kenitra on the new Spanish position concerning the question of the Moroccan Sahara, explained that the historical position of the Spanish government to consider the autonomy initiative of the Kingdom of Morocco in the southern provinces as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of the Sahara conflict, opens the way to an exponential growth of cooperation between the two countries “to which we are bound and committed”.

Spain, which thus follows in the footsteps of the United States, is returning to truth, justice and reason, he said, noting that Spain and Morocco, which are the bridge linking Europe to Africa, face great challenges in the areas of migration, the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism, but they also face great economic opportunities for today and tomorrow.

The political scientist, in this sense, indicated that Africa and its natural resources, increasingly important for new technologies and the maintenance of the European economy, now represent an important opportunity for the two neighboring countries, stressing that these are real opportunities “that we cannot pass up as unnecessary historic territorial issues at this time”.

According to him, this position of Madrid represents “another blow dealt to the illegal claims of Algeria through its Polisario puppets”.

“This is a new diplomatic coup that puts Algeria out of play and increasingly isolated internationally, while the Polisario remains in a catatonic and disoriented state”, continued Mr. Altamirano, specifying that this observation is attested by the persistent threats that Algeria poses to the Spanish economy, knowing that they can have serious consequences on relations with the whole of the European Union.

“The territorial integrity of Morocco is therefore not only a legitimate claim of the Kingdom of Morocco that Spain must continue to support”, affirmed Mr. Altamirano, who noted that it is the guarantee of peace and the stability of the entire Sahel region.

And to conclude that “the international recognition of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco presupposes, without a doubt, betting on truth, justice and peace, from which we will all benefit equally”.
