Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The UAE Public Prosecution stated, on Friday, the punishment for beggary in the Emirates, pointing to the punishment resulting from this phenomenon, which is considered rare in the country compared to other countries.

The UAE Public Prosecution said: “According to Article 475 of Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021 promulgating the Crimes and Penalties Law, whoever commits the crime of begging through begging with the aim of obtaining a benefit shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months and a fine of no less than five thousand dirhams. material or in kind, in any form or means.

The prosecution pointed out, according to what was published by the official Emirates News Agency: “It is considered an aggravating circumstance if the crime of beggary is committed in the following cases: 1- If the beggar is of sound structure or has an apparent source of livelihood… 2- If the beggar has faked injuries, permanent disabilities, or pretended perform a service for others or use any other means of deception and deception with the intent of influencing others to elicit their sympathy.

She added: “The publication of this information comes within the framework of the State’s Public Prosecution’s ongoing campaign to enhance the legal culture among members of society, disseminate all new and updated legislation in the country, and raise the level of public awareness of the law, with the aim of spreading the culture of law as a way of life.”
